The Goal: To Create Smarter Hockey Players
  • To teach players to read plays as they develop on the ice, recognize their options, make the right decisions, then react appropriately

  • To provide players the tools to make those decisions and to execute them properly

  • To develop anticipation and vision while gathering experience and confidence with specific situations that arise in every game

What’s being taught?

  • Offensive zone – creativity, cycling, picking, forechecking, 3 on 2’s, 2 on 1’s, power-play options
  • Neutral zone – regrouping, creating space and using speed to your advantage
  • Defensive zone – break-outs, angling, holding the blue line, man coverage, take outs, penalty killing options
  • Goaltender strategies – high percentage moves, attitude and confidence building, game awareness, focusing
  • Position specific training – where to go, what to look for, and different options in each player’s position
  • Thinking the game – playing smarter
  • Power Skating - edges, full strides, Hip/Knee/Toe System, balance, acceleration, explosiveness

What’s different about our program?

  • More than just skills and drills – we take the ‘game situations’ and the concepts learned and reinforce them each session during the game

  • Experienced instructors who play professionally and understand the importance of the mental aspects of the game.

  • Emphasis on expecting more from yourself and playing out of your comfort zone; on using speed to your advantage; on proven defensive strategies and techniques; and on creative offense to generate scoring opportunities.

  • Many hockey schools teach you the fundamental physical skills of a hockey player – skating, stick handling, shooting, and passing.  However, the ability to think and read the game is what ties together all these fundamentals.  Unfortunately, this skill is often overlooked and rarely taught.  This ability is what separates average players from the great players.  At the D.E.L.L., the player will learn this skill by competing in game situations every session where the right decisions will be reinforced and will become habit

  • Our focus is on learning and not on winning.  This philosophy allows players the freedom to try new plays and moves, which will lead to increased confidence.  This is so important in the development of young players
